We always think of folk singers as bearded vagabonds, always on the road, observing life in search of scenes and emotions that are worthy of putting into song. Cass McCombs takes that description quite literally. He was born in Concord, California, and since he grew up he’s travelled all over the United States, living at friends’ of friends of friends’ places. So it’s only logical that the first video taken off the sombre “WIT’S END” is a serene but exciting road movie that sees McCombs going from San Francisco to Austin (with a stop at the New Orleans Mardi Gras). The video of “County Line” is directed by McCombs himself, with the production help of Malcolm Pullinger, who will probably have helped with finding those lively characters, and picturesque urban and pastoral scenes.
