The battered economy of Iceland will no doubt be thankful that Bon Iver has chosen the island as the majestic natural background for the video of “Holocene”; another of the beautiful tracks that make his second album one of the most acclaimed of this year. The producers found some locations so impressive that National Geographic decided to premiere the video exclusively worldwide. Says director Nabil Elderkin to the magazine: “ [Iceland] is the most magical place in the world. It looked like Mars to me, so I always wanted to shoot there. When Bon Iver gave me the reins on this video, I knew it had to be filmed there. ” If you're planning a trip up north and you're wondering where to find such magnificent landscapes, you'll have to explore for yourself - the only thing that's revealed is that the video was shot on the eastern part of the island, in the region of Vik.
