It seems that Tyondai Braxton’s leaving the band hasn’t caused too much trouble for Battles. On the eve of the release of “ Glass Drop” (in stores on 6th June), Warp presents us with the official streaming –the track has been available on the internet for weeks now, but in a radio rip version and with abominable sound quality– of “ Ice Cream”, an uplifting and summery song featuring the incomparable voice of Matías Aguayo. The track is surprising for how direct it is, very far from the complex structures that characterised most of the songs on “ Mirrored” (Warp, 2007). Fresh and poppy as few songs are, the piece honours its title, with Aguayo dressing up like El Guincho at times, anticipating the arrival of summer. It remains to be seen in which direction the other guest vocalists, Gary Numan, Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead) and Yamantaka Eye (Boredoms), will take the album. Remember the Americans will be playing on Friday 27th May at San Miguel Primavera Sound 2011.
San Miguel Primavera Sound 2011 takes place on 25 and 29 May at Poble Español, and from 26 to 28 May at Parc del Forum in Barcelona. Tickets are on sale here.
