uni acronym (feat. Anne-James Chaton)
As you'll know if you've been reading this magazine, on the 17th of October “ univrs” will be released; the new effort by Carsten Nicolai as Alva Noto, on Raster-Noton. In the wake of “unitxt” (Raster-Noton, 2011), it's a concept album focusing “on the conceptual differentiation of a universal language (‘universum/universal’ = unity, entirety).” On “uni acronym”, the first extract from the album, the German artist articulates the idea though one of the most universal of languages: that of acronyms. With the help of French sonic poet Anne-James Chaton, the German draws a conceptual map of our days via a “random” list of symbols and acronyms including anything from big corporations and digital file extensions to terrorist organisations and musical bands. The track comes with a video logo invented by Nicolai and realised with the help of Nibo.
