Aloe Blacc

Femme Fatale

Aloe BlaccFour years ago, his debut album “Shine Through” (Stones Throw, 2006) posed a significant challenge to anyone trying to categorize his unique blend of soul and folk, digital R&B, dancehall, unhurried hip-hop and Latin overtones of Panamanian derivation. Now, again with the support of Stones Throw and taking advantage of the success of “I Need a Dollar” (a songs included on the soundtrack to the TV series “How to Make It in America”, starring Kid Cudi among the main actors), Aloe Blacc comes back to the fore of vintage soul with “Good Things”. On the album, released two days ago, Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III (yes, this is his real name) has dared to include his particular version of the classic “Femme Fatale” by the Velvet Underground & Nico. Femme fatal with a black soul.
