Discover Empress Of, A Promising One-Person Project From Brooklyn
Listen to “Don't Tell Me”, her first (whole) known song
Empress of. Remember the name, because we think that this lady is going to give folks something to talk about. So far “Don't Tell Me” is her only calling card, her only known song, although there are more pieces to start putting together the puzzle. For the last two weeks, a series of musical miniatures have appeared on her YouTube channel, each one identified by a number and a colour (there is a reason why the artist refers to these pieces on her website as “colourminutes”), which may or may not be fragments of just over a dozen more developed songs. At first it seemed that she was going to play the mystery card, become the new minimalist and conceptual iamamiwhoami, but Empress Of has just shown herself, coinciding with the presentation of her first song. Her name is Lorely Rodríguez, she comes from Brooklyn, and in “Don't Tell Me” , she could pass for a cross between Class Actress, Beach House and the Cocteau Twins of “ Milk & Kisses”.
