Beck Covers “I Only Have Eyes For You”
Featured on the soundtrack of an installation by Doug Aitken
Though Beck is still more than active - with his covers project, compositions and productions for others - his last proper album, “Modern Guilty” (XL, 2008), is starting to become a distant memory. So every time we hear a new track by him, whether it’s his own or not, our sun shines a little bit brighter. This time it's his rendition of the classic “ I Only Have Eyes For You”, written in 1934 and covered by an endless string of artists ever since. The piece is part of the soundtrack for “Song 1”, an installation by multimedia artist Doug Aitken this spring on the façade of the Washington DC Hirshhorn Museum. Artists like No Age, Devendra Banhart and High Places have also done a rendition of the same song, as per Aitken's request, so we will bring you more versions of “I Only Have Eyes For You” soon.
